In an electrifying encounter at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Esperance Sportive de Tunis secured a precious 1-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, propelling them to the CAF Champions League 2023/2024 final! This momentous triumph also grants the Blood and Gold a coveted ticket to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025!

From the very first whistle, the tone was set. The home side, determined to overturn their first-leg deficit (1-0), came out firing on all cylinders. As early as the 2nd minute, a scramble in the Esperance box almost proved costly, but goalkeeper Amanallah Memmiche pulled off an exceptional save.

The match was then disrupted by a severe weather storm, causing a delay of over an hour. Upon resumption, the conditions remained challenging, but the tactically astute Blood and Gold held firm against the relentless onslaught of the South Africans. In the 42nd minute, another wave of anxiety swept through the crowd as Shalulile's header forced Memmiche into another reflex save.

Half-time provided a much-needed opportunity for the players to regroup and refocus. On their return from the dressing rooms, Esperance found themselves under immense pressure from the relentless Mamelodi Sundowns. However, in the 57th minute, a moment of brilliance changed the course of the match. Raed Bouchniba, the right-back who had just replaced Yan Sasse minutes earlier, slotted home a sumptuous goal on an assist from Brazilian striker Rodrigo Rodrigues.

This goal completely stunned the South Africans, who lost their composure. Esperance then comfortably managed the remainder of the match, despite a few scares from set pieces. As the final whistle blew, the jubilant celebrations erupted in the Esperance camp.

This qualification for the CAF Champions League final is the culmination of an exceptional journey for Esperance Sportive de Tunis.
