Oduor - This squad can achieve success

Gor Mahia's 1987 Mandela Cup winning Captain Austin Oduor 'Makamu' is convinced that the current team will achieve success over the coming years if they keep their current squad of players together.

In an earlier interview with NTV, Oduor had predicted a tough match against Tunisia giants Esperance de Tunis – their opponents in the 1987 finals - in the CAF Champions League round one clash on Saturday afternoon.

But despite a 3-2 home loss in a thrilling encounter, the former Gor Mahia Captain predicts a bright future for the club.

"If current players can stick together for a long time as a group, then they can grow and get better and better. They are where they are now because they have been growing which has been seen over the past three seasons," Oduor told website team.

"Nowadays in football it is not easy to keep a group together and be with the same players for the next few years, but I hope they can manage that. If they can do that for the next few years, then that would only be good and they will achieve success."

On the Tunis return leg and if Gor Mahia had any chances of progressing to the CAF Champions League second round, he said nothing is impossible.

"The team gave a good account of themselves. They are a young team and scoring two goals against a team of Esperance's stature should be more than an inspiration to them when they travel to Tunisia.

"Just like the first leg the away match will be difficult for them but they can do it. This is football and in this game you can never predict the final score. They should go out there, hold their nerves and defend tightly and score goals that is what is important now.

"And we wish them well."

Gor Mahia will play Esperance on Sunday, 9th March 2014 at Stade de Radès in Tunis.

Ça n'a rien à voir avec le nombre de billets ou le MI mais en ce moment notre public a décidé de ne pas aller au stade et le nombre est le même pour tous les matchs de championnat 5000 max alors que nous avons 15000 billet en vente et à moitié prix que la saison passée (enceinte 10dt , tribune 20dt)

Le match de C1 ne sera pas différent et le nombre de spectateurs sera le même que celui des matchs de L1. Il ne faut rien s'attendre du public.

J'ai parlé avant sur ce sujet,
1- -20 ans tu accède pas au stade
2- Les guichets sont ouvert uniquement de 10h--> 17h
3- Le jour du match les guichets de Rades sont fermés

Ou un grand frère sans ses frères et amis plus jeunes...

C'est pas en cassant le thermomètre qu'on fait baisser la fièvre. Il faut s'attaquer aux causes des maux sociaux, on ne résout rien en ne traitant que leurs conséquences...

Les décideurs dans ce pays ont du plomb en guise de cervelle !!! Il est grand temps de renverser la table de ces bons à rien...

Williamson - International break not good for our preparation

Coach Bobby Williamson says Wednesday's international break could be bad for Gor Mahia.

A host of friendly matches have been scheduled for Wednesday, March 5 – four days after Williamson's squad played Esperance Sportive de Tunis in the CAF Champions League round one first leg match and just three days before they travel to Tunisia for the return leg at Stade de Rades.

The two stand-out fixtures that could have as many as five representatives in action are the Sudan vs Kenya match scheduled to take place in Darfur and Zambia vs Uganda encounter to be played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia.

Harambee Stars Coach Adel Amrouche has named defenders David Owino and Musa Mohammed and midfielder Antony Akumu in his 20-man squad. On the other hand Uganda Cranes tactician and Bobby Williamson's successor Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevich has granted call-ups to midfielder Geoffrey Kizito and striker Danny Sserenkuma in his squad to face Chipolopolo.

Williamson says the international break friendlies have affected preparations for next Sunday's CAF Champions League match.

"You look at the schedule we have had, and the one we have coming up, the friendlies on Wednesday are not ideally situated, because we play in midweek again in the premier league," Williamson told website team after the team's training session at City Stadium on Tuesday.

"Our preparations have been interrupted by since we have to release a couple of key players for international duty with their national teams.

"We will have to prepare physiologically since we have few days remaining ahead of our match but I don't mind them playing as long as they don't pick up injuries. We already few players who are injured but that is part of football and it also creates an opportunities for other players to step in.

"We will go and get a goal that's for sure since we have a composed side. We could have won the first leg at home but some few individual mistakes cost us the game. However that gives me confidence that we can create chances and score."

Onyango out of Tunisia trip

Gor Mahia captain Fredrick Onyango has pulled out of the squad that will travel to face Esperance sportive de Tunis in Tunisia in the second leg of the first round CAF Champions League at Stade de Rades on Sunday.

Onyango is yet to fully recover from an aggravated shoulder injury that he sustained two weeks ago against Mathare United in Machakos.

Coach Bobby Williamson confirmed that Onyango will not be in the flight to Tunis terming it a major blow to the team.

"It's a big blow to us, he is the most experienced keeper but then again, that opens the door for the younger goalkeepers to showcase what they are made off," said Williamson who will now have to pick between Joel Bataro and David Juma.

The travelling contingent 18 players and 7 officials will depart for Tunisia in two groups with the first expected to jet out early Thursday morning aboard Qatar Airlines.

The second group of players and members of the technical bench will join them in Tunis on Friday ahead of Sunday's encounter.

Coach Williamson is also concerned about his players on international duty. While the three Ugandans Geoffrey Kizito, Dan Sserunkuma and Goffrey Walusimbi are in Zambia and are expected to link up with the team later on Thursday and travel with the second batch, confusion surrounds the four players with the Harambee Stars who are in Sudan and the time of their return unclear.

"At this point I do not want to talk about the players who are away because I cannot tell when they will return to Nairobi but I hope they will be back in time to make the journey." said Williamson.

Match retour contre Gor Mahia: Krol doit revoir sa défense

Cinq buts encaissés en trois matches. C'est trop pour l'arrière-garde espérantiste connue pour sa rigueur

Les chiffres sont, parfois, impitoyables. L'Espérance Sportive de Tunis, la forteresse (presque) imprenable depuis fort longtemps, vient d'encaisser 5 buts face à Grombalia Sport, l'ESMétlaoui et Gor Mahia, autant de buts que lors de la phase aller du championnat national de football.

Cette mauvaise période sur le plan défensif s'est encore vérifiée lors du dernier match de la Ligue des champions face aux Kényans de Gor Mahia. «On prend trop de buts en ce moment, concède Krol. C'est l'affaire de tous. Je pense que la rigueur défensive a manqué, il y a un peu moins d'attention, de concentration. Il y a des petites erreurs inhabituelles».

Depuis quelque temps, le leader de la Ligue 1 est confronté à des blessures qui fragilisent un effectif assez garni. Derbali, M'hadhebi, Nefzi, Ben Mansour, Dhaouadi et Chammam ont manqué de rigueur et de concentration.

Ajoutez à leur blessure et à leur méforme, le manque de vigilance du gardien de but Moëz Ben Chrifia. Ce dernier a perdu beaucoup de ses réflexes. Sa responsabilité est grande sur les quatre buts encaissés respectivement face aux Grombaliens et face aux Kenyans de Gor Mahia.

Les blessures perturbent l'équilibre, même si ça donne du temps de jeu aux autres. On sait qu'il faut avoir une défense fixe. Krol est censé revoir sa défense et redonner une chance à Bouba qui devrait être titularisé avec Dhaouadi face à Gor Mahia.
Chammam : un problème de trop pour Krol

Depuis le début de la saison, l'arrière gauche «sang et or» Khelil Chammam passe par une période de méforme qui inquiète le staff technique qui est en train de chercher un autre joueur pour le remplacer. Serait-ce Ben Akrimi? Le côté gauche de la défense espérantiste est devenu le talon d'Achille de l'équipe «sang et or».

Blaïli reste
Après avoir manifesté son désir de quitter le club de Bab Souika, l'Algérien Blaïli devrait rester jusqu'en 2015. Il est censé reprendre les entraînements avec ses coéquipiers pour son bien, surtout si l'Algérien pense être transféré, il doit avoir l'autorisation de sortie.

Maâloul débouté
Nabil Maâloul a encore perdu face à l'Espérance Sportive de Tunis. En effet, la commission nationale d'appel a confirmé la décision rendue par la commission des litiges relevant de la même institution qui a débouté l'ex-entraîneur de l'EST Nabil Maâloul dans sa plainte portée contre le président du club Hamdi Meddeb.

Daniel Bennet pour le retour
Ce sera l'arbitre sud-africain Daniel Bennet qui dirigera le match retour entre l'EST et Gor Mahia comptant pour les 1/16es de finale de la Ligue des champions.

Aussi on parle de douleur au dos pour Darraji, alors que Afful est disponible..
Apres une semaine dans les aeroports: Tunis-Doha-Kenya-Doha-Tunis-Barcelone-Tunis, ca serait mieux de laisser Ragued et Darraji respirer un peu..
y'a t'il d'autre proposition pour remplacer Ragued apart Afful ? Bouba?

Tunisia: Gor Mahia first delegation consisting of players, technical bench headed by coach Bobby Williamson and some club officials which left Nairobi on Thursday at 1.50am aboard Qatar Airways plane, landed in Tunis the capital city of Tunisia at exactly 3.24pm Kenyan time after taking off at Doha at around 9.30am.

They were received by the host team who booked them in one of the best hotels in Tunis and provided them with VIP treatment from the airport to the hotel.

In appreciating the warm reception by their hosts - Esperance club management, Gor Mahia deputy Secretary General Anima Oketch appreciated the warm reception accorded to them ahead of the return leg match on Sunday against Esperance who pulled a 3-2 win over Gor last weekend.

"This was beyond our expectations and the hosts have done a wonderful job in receiving us. They promised to handle us well and indeed they kept their word. They have helped in Visa clearance; gave us the best means of transport, the smooth transition of process after process with their help and to our surprise, to be booked in the best hotel here in Tunisia," Anima said.

The warm reception can be associated to the one Gor Mahia gave the Tunisians when they landed in Nairobi about a week ago and to Naima, that was the perfect way of reciprocating them.

"When they came to Nairobi, we received them well and they are true to their word because they promised to do the same," she added.

Match Preview: Esperance Sportive de Tunis vs Gor Mahia

Coach Bobby Williamson knows his side will have to pull off something staggering against Esperance on Sunday in Tunis to reach the second round of the CAF Champions League.

"It is a difficult task, we know that, but we think it is not impossible. What we need to have a real go and play at our best that is what we will do. I am confident we will be completely focused and up for it, football is football and everything is possible." said the Scott.

Gor Mahia trail 3-2 from the first leg last week and need to win by two clear goals against a side who are considered amongst the best in the continent. Throw in the away goals factor and the absence of team captain and first choice goalkeeper and you get a grasp of the gradient on this uphill task.

Esperance were frankly gifted in the first leg at Nyayo Stadium. Ahmed Akaichi pulled the visitors level after Danny Sserenkuma had fired the hosts in the lead form a14th minute spot kick. Yannick Ndjeng then gave Ruud Krol's side a grip on this tie that only briefly loosened when Haron Shakava got Gor Mahia back into it, but the squeeze returned when Heithem Jouini prod in a third 1 minute from time.

Epserance came into the fixture with a dominant domestic form and go into the return leg at the back of 4 straight wins. It has been fully 19 games since they suffered defeat.

"It is difficult to say what percentage chance we have but we have the right to believe because we have the quality. To turn up, just accepting we go out, would be absolutely unacceptable so we want to show we can use our experience and our quality." added Williamson.

"The fact they dominate their league so much gives everybody a bit more mental strength and the whole team a bit more charisma. For us the target will be to get some doubt in their minds and that can only come with a quality game."

Just how can Gor Mahia turn this tie around?

Of course David Owino is expected back from suspension to bolster the much needed defensive cover. One school of thought suggests Gor Mahia need to keep it tight and deny Esperance space in the opening stages of the second leg and then try and nick goals. But but as you might expect Williamson knows he must unshackle his side and, most importantly, score early.

Esperance have such an advantage that Gor Mahia will need to score at least two goals and by keeping their end tight, the closer it gets to the end, the more comfortable they will be.

A very positive attitude will be vital right from the start of the match; it may be next to impossible to switch it on after an hour if you have been cautious. Again when you are cautious against an opposition like Esperance backed by their home support you too risk being 1-0 down as well.

Gor Mahia must go into the match with a positive attitude, create opportunities from the first whistle and fight until the very end. Realistically, it is all Gor Mahia can do. Educated attacking, stoic defending plus a dash of fortune - that is the plan. But, make no mistake; they face a mighty task in Tunis.

CAF Watch: Esperance striker ruled out for one month.

Esperance Sportive de Tunis will miss the services of Cameroonian striker Yannick Ndjeng in the CAF Champions League 1st round return leg match against Gor Mahia on Sunday.

According to the club official website (www,esperance-de-tunis.net), Ndjeng picked an injury following an acceleration during the team's Thursday training session. Subsequent radios performed confirmed the player's injury, and confirmed he will be unavailable for a period of one month.

The striker was on target in the first leg match scoring the visitors' second goal at Nyayo Stadium last Saturday.

GOR carry joy riders: Fans query big contingent to Tunis for CL

When Gor Mahia played Esperance of Tunisia last Saturday during the first round of CAF Champions League match at Nyayo Stadium, a paltry Sh2.6million was raised at the gates. This might be the reason why Gor Mahia have named a big contingent to travel to Tunis for the return match in a move that has left fans furious at the extravagance and poor planning.

Gor will have seven club officials travelling, though three are paying their own air ticket costs. The remaining four will consume Sh400,000 in air tickets alone despite the fact that they have no direct role to play in the match.

Fans have taken to social media to criticise the move, terming it wasteful. Adhiambo Kisero said on Facebook: "Selfishness will kill Kenyan football. The team has carried even a treasurer who does not understand the rules of the game. I would rather carry more players."

Fans outcry Another fan, Owili Moses Madoro, wrote: "I wish they could arrange how to travel with all the players even if some will be fans on the stands. At least they will be there with their team-mates." See Also: Facing uphill task: Esperance rally to stop Gor Mahia in Champions League match When contacted, club chairman Ambrose Rachier said he understands the fans' concerns, especially with regard to the four extra officials the club is supposed to pay for.

Rachier is one of the officials who will pay their own bills while away in Tunis. The others are David Kilo and Frank Wasuna. "The fans are right in questioning such expenditure considering it will cost us Sh100,000 per person in air fare alone," he explained.

Rachier said the club is obligated to pay the expenses of 25 people who include 18 players, five members of the technical bench, one head of delegation and another club official who has been representing them in pre-match meetings.

"When we travelled to Gabon, the executive agreed that the four officials who went should give room for others to travel to Tunisia. However, in the event that they still wanted to go then they should pay for themselves.

"I admit that the current situation – where we have to carry four officials – is debatable and we should ask ourselves whether it is right to burden the club with the expense," he said. Gor Mahia travel to Tunis in two batches, with the first group departing tomorrow and the second on Friday. The return match will be played on Sunday.

Gor Mahia must win by at least two goals to go through to the next round after losing the first leg 3-2. Three weeks ago, when AFC Leopards travelled to Addis Ababa for their return Confederations Cup match against Defense, the team carried only two goalkeepers instead of three.

L'Espérance Sportive de Tunis affrontera, dimanche à Rades, l'équipe kénayne de Gor Mahia, dans le cadre du match retour des seizièmes de finale de la ligue des champions d'Afrique "Un match à prendre au sérieux" selon le coach espérantiste Ruud Krol.

Le coach "Sang et Or", Ruud Krol, a tenu un point de presse, vendredi matin au Parc B. Malgré la victoire acquise à Nairobi, le Néerlandais s'est montré méfiant :
"Un match de ligue des champions est toujours difficile à négocier. Qu'il soit à domicile ou à l'extérieur, il faut être concentré. Il est vrai que c'est bien de battre cette équipe chez elle 3 à 2 mais nous ne sommes toujours pas qualifiés. Il reste un match à disputer".

L'adversaire : Interrogé sur l'équipe kenyane, le coach espérantiste a déclaré que le jeu rapide est son point fort : "A l'aller, ils ont profité de la hauteur. Ils se sont montrés rapides et vifs. Ils sont jeunes et je pense qu'ils sont à prendre au sérieux".

La blessure de Ndjeng : L'attaquant camerounais s'est blessé hier et sera indisponible entre 3 et 4 semaines. Une absence qui dérange le Néerlanais : "Dommage pour lui et pour nous. CL 2014 - 1/16ème retour: Point de presse de Ruud Krol

A deux jours du match retour des seizièmes de finale de la Champions League entre l'Espérance Sportive de Tunis et Gor Mahia prévu le dimanche 9 mars au stade de Radès à partir de 16h00, le coach «Sang et Or», Ruud Krol, a tenu un point de presse aujourd'hui à la salle des conférences du parc «Hassène Belkhodja», et au cours duquel il a commencé par affirmer que «le match retour reste toujours un match de Champions League et qui sera donc tout aussi difficile. Pour nous, ce ne sera pas facile surtout que nous manquerons de l'apport de Yannick N'djeng qui vient de se blesser à l'entraînement et dont l'indisponibilité devrait durer entre trois et quatre semaines selon les prévisions du staff médical. N'djeng est un joueur de talent qui retrouvait la forme après une blessure antérieure. Cela n'est pas bon pour son moral mais il faudra faire avec et nous ferons en sorte qu'il revienne le plus vite possible en bonne santé. Pour son remplacement, j'y pense et j'attendrais encore les deux derniers entraînements pour analyser la situation et faire les choix qui s'imposent. Mais globalement, je ne changerais pas beaucoup l'équipe.»

A propos de l'adversaire kenyan, le coach «Sang et Or» a dit «Gor Mahia est une équipe jeune qui fournit beaucoup d'énergie sur le terrain. A l'aller, elle a bénéficié de l'avantage de jouer en altitude en balançant de longs ballons qui nous ont gênés. C'est dire qu'il faudra se méfier du jeu long de notre adversaire et prendre les précautions nécessaires pour bien aborder cette rencontre et obtenir notre qualification au prochain tour.»

A propos du compartiment défensif, l'entraîneur néerlandais a déclaré «Je suis satisfait d'une manière générale de notre défense mais il faudrait continuer à travailler pour soigner le rendement collectif de l'équipe.»
