Ils n'en sont qu'à leur 2ème journée de championnat, et sont classés 2ème. Notre tâche lors de ce premier safari kenyan sera de ramener un bon résultat qui nous permette un match retour tranquille: un match nul, positif si possible, voire pourquoi pas une victoire à l'extérieur.

Gor Mahia Fc n'est pas un total inconnu pour la Dawla, nous avons eu à croiser le fer avec lui en 1987 ( 2-2 à l'aller à Tunis et 1-1 au retour ).

Un EST averti vaut mieux que deux !!! Ce ne sera pas un voyage de tout repos.

Les Kenyans sont difficiles dans tous les domaines, il y a beaucoup d'insécurité dans le pays, notre équipe nationale féminine de volley ball en a fait récemment les frais (vols, intimidations, etc). Je me rappelle notre match à Nairobi en 1987 et l'ambiance électrique qui y prévalait. C'est vrai que les temps ont changé mais les sang et or sont avertis: ne pas sous-estimer l'adversaire, essayer de marquer au moins un but (rappelez vous du match aller contre Orlando Pirates) incha'Allah marbouha.

They faced Esperance of Tunisia , a professional outfit at a time when all Gor Mahia players were part timers. The first leg was played in Tunis. Abass Magongo scored the first goal. Esperance equalized then went ahead 2-1. Midway through the second half. Peter Dawo scored with a brilliant long range effort.

The game ended 2-2. The return leg was played at Kasarani to a capacity crowd. Esperance appalled fans by engaging in dirty tactics which included eye gouging, some of which was caught on camera. In the first half they focused on dangerman Peter Dawo, several times elbowing, gouging and stomping him. Still they could not stop him as he scored the match opener from a corner kick taken by Abass Magongo.

Esperance equalized late in the second half but Gor Mahia won on away goals rule. There were wild celebrations after the match as several Gor Mahia fans stormed into the pitch to join the team in a lap of honour.

L'Espérance Sportive de Tunis lance ce weekend sa compagne africaine en ligue des champions 2014 et défiera le samedi à partir de 14h le club Kenyan de Gor Mahia.

Voici le programme complet de la semaine:

- Mardi 25 février : deux séances d'entrainements à Radès à 10h00 et à 15h00.

- Mercredi 26 février : Entrainement matinal à Gammarth suivi du déjeuner ensuite départ à l'aéroport Tunis-Carthage pour Doha la capitale du Qatar. Le groupe passera la nuit sur place.

- Jeudi 27 février : Départ de Doha vers Nairobi pour une durée de 5h de vol. Entrainement et décrassage sur place dès l'arrivée.

- Vendredi 28 février : Entrainement au Nairobi City Stadium lieu de la rencontre à 16h00 heure locale (14h heure tunisienne)

Par ailleurs, le coach Ruud Krol a fait appel à une liste 20 joueurs qui connait l'absence de Gharsellaoui et Nefzi. Voici la liste complète des joueurs convoqués :

With Esperance playing Gor Mahia this weekend, a lot is being mentioned about the prospects of this match. Unfortunately, little detailed information is being given about 'taraji'- as Esperance is affectionately called. It shows how little Kenyans follow continental club football. Therefore, being an ardent fan of CAF club football (and frustrated by how naively Esperance is being lowly rated) I have decided to give an intro on them ahead of the weekend fixture.

Esperance are a hugely decorated side, third in the continent by total accolades won, hence they carry a lot of institutional pride like our very own Gor Mahia. They have experienced some sort of golden age recently. Winning the Arab Champions League in 2009, making three straight appearances in the CAF Champions League final between 2010 and 2012; managing to win it in 2011. They also won their league from 2009-2012 not to mention being only the 6th African club to win a treble (involving a continental title) in 2011.

Last year was underwhelming for the blood and gold. Only managing to finish runners up in the league and experiencing semi final exits in the Champions league and Tunisian cup. Maher Kanzari's one year reign as coach ending as a result. After two interim coaches they have now settled well under former Dutch star Ruud Krol who has had successful stints at Orlando Pirates and CS Sfaxien.

The Tunis giants are arguably the most complete side in Africa. A well-stocked and balanced side being the recipe for their recent success. Despite four coaches in these five glorious years their playing style has remained largely the same (showing the importance of a football director but that is an article for another day). With a 4-2-3-1 system they play a high defence line with the team collectively pressing to win the ball in sensitive areas and spreading it wide.

The wingers play the ball infield to the lone striker and attacking midfielder(s) to score. They are also brilliant at set pieces with height and players capable of good delivery in plenty. Their stats are terrifying. Since 2010, they have played 18 matches in the pre-group stage rounds with a record of 12 wins, 5 draws and only one defeat. Actually they have lost only 7 of 56 CAF Champions league matches since 2010. Stats that their peers TP Mazembe and Al Ahly play second fiddle to.

What are the personnel behind this machine? At the goal posts they boast the best Africa-based goalkeeper- Moez Ben Cherifia. Despite being only 22 years old he has played two Champions League finals, made over 100 caps for Esperance and is first choice for Tunisia's national team. In central defence they possess aerial and physical prowess from Ben Mansour and Chamsedine Dhaouadi. New signings Arbi Jabeur and Aminou Bouba have enjoyed some playing time recently but will likely sit this one out in favour of the duo who were part of the campaign last year. In the fullback positions they have captain Khalil Chammam on the left side. He is unspectacular going forward but very dependable in defensive work and takes set pieces. On the right, Sami Derbali will be a threat with his surges forward and crosses. He will be challenged for a starting role by Iheb Mbarki as he is just from a lengthy suspension.

In the pivot position, also referred to as the good cop bad cop combination will be Hocine Ragued and Khaled Mouelhi. The former being the team's piano carrier i.e., the person that will be frustrating Gor Mahia's attackers. Mouelhi will be charged with playmaking responsibilities. Like his partner, he is experienced having clocked 30 years and tasted European football.

The trio behind the lone striker are always the danger factor in this system and it will not be any different this weekend. The good news for Gor Mahia is that the wingers present at the height of their powers have since left. Youssef Msakni making an Arab transfer record move of 11 million Euros to Qatari side Lekhwiya and Wadji Bouazzi being forced out by injuries. The familiar face will be Darragi but his reputation has declined since a disappointing stint at FC Sion which saw him move back to 'taraji' akin to Blackberry Odhiambo at Gor Mahia. The wingers this time will be Ghanaian international Harrison Afful who was formerly a right back and plays right back for Ghana. On the left will be pacy striker Ahmed Akaichi and the two will interchange throughout the game.

The lone striker will undoubtedly be Cameroonian Yannick N'djeng. The burly striker has great ability to hold up play and will be an important physical presence for the Tunisian outfit in attack.

The Tunisians will come into this fixture having won 3 straight matches since their draw to Etoile Sahel. They lead the league with only one defeat in 20 matches and are unbeaten in 2014.

K'ogalo custodian and captain Jerim Onyango is racing against time to be fit to face Esperance of Tunisia after missing Tuesday's training through injury

Gor Mahia goalkeeper and captain Jerim Onyango remains doubtful for Saturday's first round first leg Caf Champions League match against Esperance of Tunisia at Nyayo Stadium.

Onyango was injured during the Kenyan Premier League match against Mathare United at Machakos Municipal Stadium on Sunday forcing him to sit out Tuesday's training session.

The goalkeeper said he is fighting to be fit for the match and will probably start training on Thursday. "It does not look bad and I am hoping to start training after one or two days and hopefully I can be in the coach's plans for the match," Onyango told Goal.

Onyango helped Gor Mahia progress in the competition after saving four penalties in the team's elimination of Gabonese side US Bitam. On a positive note, Gor Mahia have been boosted by the return from injury of Patrick Oboya and Kevin 'Ade' Omondi.

Coach Bobby Williamson says he is delighted to have the two back as this raises the level of competition for places in the team. "The two are back and their presence gives me plenty of options. It is a good situation to be in."

Gor Mahia a gagné ses deux premiers matchs dans le cadre de la Premier League champions du Kenya. Le joueur le plus en forme est Dan Sserunkuma (Ougandais, 24 ans, très rapide et efficace). Il a déjà marqué deux buts et sera certainement le joueur le plus dangereux de la formation kenyane. J'ai vu quelques extraits du match Gor Mahia-US Bitam (Gabon) et je peux affirmer que cette équipe est à prendre au sérieux même si Taraji lui est supériere à tous les niveaux.

L'unique avantage que l'on a par rapport à ce sérieux adversaire, c'est que nous sommes en pleine bourre dans notre championnat, et dans notre vitesse de croisière, alors qu'ils n'en sont qu'à leur deuxième journée et manquent surement de condition physique.
La tactique idéale, serait de faire le dos rond et laisser passer l'orage des 20 premières minutes, et ensuite sortir les crucifier.

تبدأ الاربعاء مغامرة الترجي الرياضي الإفريقية لهذه السنة بما أن الفريق يغادر تونس بعد الظهر في اتجاه الدوحة ومنها إلى نيروبي عاصمة كينيا حيث يلاقي يوم السبت بطل هذا البلد فريق غور ماهيا في ذهاب الدور الأول لكأس رابطة الأبطال الإفريقية، المنافس معروف بالنسبة لأبناء باب سويقة بل أكثر من ذلك فهو يعيد لهم ذكريات سيئة جدا بخطف لقب كأس الكؤوس الإفريقية منهم منذ أكثر من 25 سنة وهو ما يضفي طابع الثأر الرياضي طبعا على هذه المواجهة.

هذا الصباح المصافحة الأخيرة في تونس

استعدادات الترجي الرياضي لهذا الأسبوع تنقسم إلى جزئين الأول في تونس والثاني في كينيا ، الجزء الأول في تونس ينتهي هذا الصباح بآخر مصافحة قبل السفر بعد الظهر وستخصص هذه الحصة للجانب التكتيكي بالأساس بما أن الإطار الفني يريد وضع تشكيلته الأساسية وخطته التكتيكية من تونس تحسبا لكل المفاجآت والعراقيل هناك في كينيا .
أما الجزء الثاني الذي سيدور في نيروبي فيتضمن أولا حصة لإزالة الإرهاق عشية الخميس مباشرة بعد الوصول إلى كينيا وثانيا حصة تدريبية خفيفة قبل 24 ساعة من موعد اللقاء أي عشية الجمعة بالملعب الرئيسي للتعرف على أرضية الميدان.

قضاء الليلة في الدوحة

ستكون رحلة الترجي الرياضي العادية عبر محطتين الأولى في اتجاه الدوحة التي يصلها الترجيون في حدود العاشرة ونصف ليلا بالتوقيت المحلي أي الثامنة ونصف بتوقيت تونس ويقضون بأحد فنادقها ليلتهم وقد أتموا مسبقا كل الإجراءات لذلك سواء تأشيرة دخول قطر أو حجز النزل أو كذلك النقل بين المطار والفندق.
هذا ويغادر وفد الترجي الرياضي العاصمة القطرية الدوحة صباح الخميس في اتجاه نيروبي.

5 ساعات بين الدوحة ونيروبي

إذن يشد الترجيون الرحال إلى كينيا وستنطلق الرحلة من مطار الدوحة على الساعة التاسعة صباحا ليكون الوصول إلى نيروبي في حدود الساعة الثانية بعد الزوال أي أن هذه السفرة تستغرق 5 ساعات فقط ويعد بالتالي اختيار الدوحة كمحطة رابطة بين تونس وكينيا صائبا حيث تفادى المسؤولون أولا رحلة ليلية من شانها أن تتعب اللاعبين كثيرا وثانيا رحلة أطول وبالتالي أرهق من بلد آخر مثل الإمارات أو المغرب.

20 لاعب للثأر من غورماهيا

لم يختر المدرب رود كرول كل اللاعبين المرسمين بالقائمة الإفريقية للمشاركة في هذه الرحلة الإفريقية الأولى في كأس رابطة الأبطال الإفريقية بما أنه استغنى على خماسي سيبقى في تونس للتدرب مع المساعد الثاني عاد الأطرش وهم محمد أمين النفزي وخالد الغرسلاوي وكامارا داودا وماكون إضافة إلى البلايلي .
أما اللاعبون العشرون الذين اختارهم الهولندي للإطاحة والثأر بغور ماهيا في لقاء السبت القادم فهم:

هذا ويتكوّن الوفد الرسمي للترجي الرياضي في رحلته التي تنطلق اليوم في اتجاه كينيا عبر قطر من 35 شخص بين إطار فني وطاقم طبي ولاعبين وإداريين والملحق الصحفي وحافظي الأثاث و يقود رئيس النادي حمدي المدب هذا الوفد حتى يكون خير سند للاعبيه في هذا الموعد الصعب أمام فريق عتيد يملك خبرة المشاركات القارية.
إلى جانب الوفد الرسمي سيكون حوالي 15 محب في الموعد ممن تعودوا مرافقة الترجي الرياضي في كل رحلاته الإفريقية.

واصف جليّل يمثل الجامعة

ممثل الجامعة سيكون هو الآخر في الموعد في هذه الرحلة مع الترجي الرياضي سواء إلى العاصمة القطرية الدوحة أو كذلك إلى نيروبي عاصمة كينيا وهو واصف جليّل عضو الرابطة المحترفة لكرة القدم وهو رجل قانون وسيكون بالتالي على ذمة الترجي الرياضي لحل الإشكاليات إذا وجدت بطبيعة الحال.

Je l'ai dit et je le répète, il ne faut pas tabler sur un match nul (vierge) mais essayer de marquer au moins un but pour nous faciliter la tache lors du match retour à Tunis. Je ne voudrais pas voir se reproduire le scénario de nos deux confrontations contre Orlando Pirates.

Je ne connait pas cette équipe mais je pense que ça ne sera pas si difficile que ça à se stade de la compétition de s'imposer chez eux.

A la veille du départ de l'Espérance Sportive de Tunis en direction du Kenya pour y affronter Gor Mahia dans le cadre des seizièmes de finale de la Ligue des champions, le coach sang et or, le Hollandais Ruud Krol a donné un point de presse à la salle des conférences du parc Hassène Belkhodja au cours duquel il a souligné que « Gor Mahia reste une équipe kenyane qui appartient à un pays qui progresse en matière de football.

Il y a plus d'une vingtaine d'années, elle avait déjà disputé une finale de coupe africaine contre l'Espérance. Néanmoins, elle possède plusieurs joueurs étrangers, notamment des Ougandais, redoutables.

Cependant, nous avons suffisamment d'expérience pour nous imposer. Et là, nous devons aborder cette compétition avec le maximum de sérieux pour bien l'entamer. »

A-t-il eu l'occasion de visionner Gor Mahia afin de mieux la connaitre ? Le coach hollandais répond en notant: « Je n'ai pas d'informations précises sur l'équipe adverse et je n'ai pas eu la possibilité de la voir jouer. Mais, à notre arrivée au Kenya, j'aurai l'occasion de visionner cette équipe et les matches qu'elle a joués dernièrement. »

Au sujet du championnat et de la succession des échéances, Ruud Krol a dit: « Il faut nous concentrer sur la Ligue des champions pour obtenir les meilleurs résultats possibles. La Ligue des champions est une compétition difficile pour laquelle il faut être prêt. »

Concernant l'adaptation des joueurs à ses idées et à son système tactique, l'entraîneur sang et or a estimé que « les joueurs progressent lentement mais sûrement. Sur le plan défensif, je ne suis certes pas content du but encaissé devant l'ES Metlaoui mais il fallait intégrer des joueurs qui étaient indisponibles pendant une longue période et qui avaient donc besoin de retrouver le terrain afin d'être disponibles pour la Ligue des Champions.

De plus, nous voulons compter sur l'intégralité de l'effectif pour la Champions League et l'intégration de Dhaouadi et Derbali entre dans cette philosophie de compter sur l'ensemble de l'effectif pour cette compétition et aussi pour la suite du championnat. »

« Sur un plan plus général, je pense que nous évoluons mais il faudrait aller dans le sens d'un nécessaire changement des mentalités. »

En ce qui concerne les joueurs qui prendront part au voyage vers le Kenya, Krol a précisé: « Vingt joueurs ont été convoqués pour ce match. Khaled Gharsallaoui restera à Tunis pour mieux travailler afin de retrouver son meilleur niveau car en Ligue des champions, je veux compter seulement sur des joueurs compétitifs à 100%. »

Gare à l'exés de confiance . En foot-ball moderne et sur un match tout peut arriver .Aussi il y a le probleme de l'altitude qui a un impact sur le rendement physique des joueur !!!

Ceux qui pensent que le déplacement à Nairobi va être une promenade de santé se trompent lourdement. Les africains en général sont l'avantage sur nous de l'aspect physique. Ils jouent à l'anglaise, donc méfiance le jeu aérien, et l'épreuve de force physique, les tackles en retard dans la zone, et ne pas oublier la fatigue d'un long voyage !!!

On n'est jamais à l'abri d'une erreur d'arbitrage, en CL c'est récurrent !!!

Notre seule chance se situe au niveau du manque de compétition de cette équipe qui démarre sa saison et manquera certainement de rythme et d'automatismes .. Si on ramène un nul 1-1 je signe tout de suite !!!

Et gaffe aux cartons ...

Le nouveau coach de l'EST semble connaitre la formation adverse. « Gor Mahia a joué face à l'Espérance de Tunis durant les années 80. Aujourd'hui, elle possède des joueurs d'expérience et aussi des jeunes. Je sais aussi que le buteur de l'Ouganda fait partie de leur équipe et qu'ils pourraient manquer de rythme car ils viennent de reprendre la compétition », a fait savoir Ruud Krol lors de la conférence de presse ce mardi.

Le technicien néerlandais sait aussi que sur la pelouse adverse, la tache ne sera pas du tout facile: « Notre tâche ne sera pas facile. En ligue des champions, il y a toujours un danger. Nous chercherons à assurer un bon résultat qui nous faciliterait le match retour. Notre expérience sera un élément clé lors de cette double-confrontation »

Pour bien entamer la plus prestigieuse coupe des clubs en Afrique, le coach espérantiste veut faire le voyage avec les joueurs en forme du moment. Il a donc laissé à la maison des joueurs comme Gharsellaoui: « J'ai profité des derniers matchs pour donner du temps de jeu à plusieurs joueurs.

Face à l'ES Metlaoui, j'ai relancé Derbali et Dhaouadi. Gharsellaoui ? Il a joué pendant 50 minutes et je trouve qu'il n'a toujours pas retrouvé son top niveau. Il ne fera donc pas partie du groupe des 20 joueurs convoqués pour ce samedi. Je donne la chance à tout le monde mais en ligue des champions ce sont les plus formes qui jouent».

Kenyan champions to avoid conceding goal in first leg

Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson has said the team will avoid conceding at home when they take on Tunisian giants Esperance in Saturday's Champions League first round match at Nyayo National Stadium. The team resumed training yesterday at Nairobi City Stadium after successfully picking three league points at the expense of Mathare United in a 1-0 win in Machakos.

Speaking after taking his team through the morning session, Williamson said: "It is a big match for us and the strategy will be to avoid conceding at home so that the return match is easier to navigate. "It is always costly to concede at home because then you have to score more goals away, which is more difficult. Gor Mahia have been boosted by the return of Patrick Oboya and Kevin Omondi from injury, something the coach says has increased competition for places. "As a coach, it is delightful to see your players competing for starting places in the team and this is the situation we find ourselves in ahead of the match.

Technical options
"Oboya and Omondi are fully fit and their presence will give me and my technical bench options as we sit down to pick the starting line-up," he added. The two players did not feature in the preliminary match where Gor Mahia eliminated US Bittam of Gabon.

Oboya played some part in Sunday's 1-0 win against Mathare United in the KPL match at Machakos Municipal Stadium. Gor Mahia captain and goalkeeper Jerim Onyango has in the meantime said the team is highly motivated to take on their opponents, especially after they bundled out their West African opponents in the preliminary round.

"The win over Bittam has given a lot of confidence and now we believe in ourselves. We want to tell our fans to come up in large numbers and give us the home advantage. Their presence will make a big difference," he said. Historical memories Onyango said majority of the players look forward to featuring in the match, which has historical memories for most of them. "I was only three years old when Gor Mahia beat Esperance to win the Mandela Cup in 1987.

A good number of players in the team were either too young or were not even born. "This has given many of us the motivation to want to repeat that 1987 feat. A lot has changed since then, but we believe it can be done again," added the goalkeeper. Onyango is, however, doubtful for Saturday's match after picking an injury during the league match at Machakos Stadium and did not train with the rest of the squad.

Gor Mahia goalkeeper and captain Jerim Onyango remains doubtful for Saturday's first round first leg Caf Champions League match against Esperance of Tunisia at Nyayo Stadium.

Onyango was injured during the Kenyan Premier League match against Mathare United at Machakos Municipal Stadium on Sunday forcing him to sit out Tuesday's training session.

The goalkeeper said he is fighting to be fit for the match and will probably start training on Thursday. "It does not look bad and I am hoping to start training after one or two days and hopefully I can be in the coach's plans for the match," Onyango told Goal.

Onyango helped Gor Mahia progress in the competition after saving four penalties in the team's elimination of Gabonese side US Bitam. On a positive note, Gor Mahia have been boosted by the return from injury of Patrick Oboya and Kevin 'Ade' Omondi.

Coach Bobby Williamson says he is delighted to have the two back as this raises the level of competition for places in the team. "The two are back and their presence gives me plenty of options. It is a good situation to be in."

Coach Bobby Williamson believes his charges will be ready to take down Tunisia giants Esperance de Tunis when the two sides clash on Saturday, 1st March 2013 at Nyayo National Stadium.

Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson is optimistic his boys will live to the occasion and beat Esperance of Tunisia in an Africa Champions League tie on Saturday at the Nyayo National Stadium.

After seeing Gor Mahia through the competition's preliminary round over Gabon's US Bitam on post match penalties, Williamson acknowledges that the run against Esperance will not be easy but it is achievable.

"We know they are frequent participants in the champions league and are highly ranked in the continent, but we are also here on merit and we have been improving with every game. I am confident we can make it past them by matching them in all departments," said the Scot.

Assistant Coach Bobby Ogolla, who was a part player in the 1987 team but missed out of the final due to injury recalls that even then the Tunisians were hot favourites.

"We are meeting Esperance in the same way we did in 1987. We were the underdogs then but we made history and we can shock them again as underdogs." said Ogolla.

The CAF Champions League first round clash will be the two sides first meeting since the 1987 Mandela Cup Finals at Kasarani. Gor Mahia were winners on away goal advantage after holding their opponents to a 1-1 draw in the second leg encounter in Nairobi. The first leg in Tunisia had ended in 2-2 draw.

Esperance are expected in the country on Thursday afternoon ahead of the weekend encounter.

L'Espérance de Tunis s'envolera cet après-midi pour le Kenya où elle affrontera Gor Mahia, samedi (14h00), pour le compte des 16ès de finale aller de la Ligue des Champions.

Bobby Williamson, coach de l'adversaire de l'Espérance de Tunis en ligue des champions, Gor Mahia, a déclaré, lors d'une interview accordée au site officiel, qu'il ne faudra surtout pas encaisser à domicile : "C'est un grand match pour nous face au "géant tunisien".

Encaisser chez nous rendrait le match retour très difficile. Le groupe est très confiant depuis la victoire face à l'US Bitam".

après des sources, les autorités de la douane de l'aéroport de Tunis-Carthage ont saisi chez le joueur de l'Espérance S.Tunis, Harrison Afful 15 mille euros et 10 mille dollars. L'argent a été trouvé dans les chaussures du joueur.

Après vérification et interrogatoire du concerné, Afful a avancé que l'argent provenait de la Fédération du Ghana de football et qui serait d'après lui une prime de qualification pour la Coupe du monde Brésil 2014.
Le service concerné vérifiera auprès de la banque centrale la source de l'argent saisi.

Le joueur n'avait pas d'autorisation de la banque centrale et n'avait pas effectué de déclaration sur l'argent en sa possession ce qui inclut une amende estimée au triple de la somme saisie. Finalement, il a été permis au joueur de poursuivre son voyage avec son club vers le Kenya .
