CAF CL 2013 - Pirates : Rupture du tendon d'Achilles pour Sangweni

Le défenseur axial d'Orlando Pirates Siyabonga Sangweni a contracté une rupture du tendon d'Achilles lors d'un match disputé la nuit dernière dans le cadre de la Telkom Knockout Cup, rapporte kick off. Les Pirates ont toutefois renoué avec le succès en battant Mpumalanga Black Aces (3-1).

Des examens médicaux seront opérés pour déterminer la gravité de la blessure ainsi que la durée d'éloignement des stades pour le joueur qui a été contraint plus tôt cette année à une longue absence suite à une blessure au niveau du genou.

Si le joueur serait out pour la demi-finale retour de la CAF Champions League 2013, il serait vraisemblablement relevé par Lucky Lekgwathi, capitaine des Pirates, 38 ans, qui n'est pas en odeur de sainteté avec ses responsables et n'a pas pris part aux derniers matchs de son club.

Le défenseur axial d'Orlando Pirates Siyabonga Sangweni, qui a contracté une rupture du tendon d'Achilles lors du dernier match disputé dans le cadre de la Telkom Knockout Cup contre Mpumalanga Black Aces (3-1), sera opéré aujourd'hui après la confirmation du diagnostic initial. La date de son retour à la compétition sera déterminée après l'opération.

Pour sa part, le milieu Thandani Ntshumayelo sera examiné par un spécialiste suite à sa bléssure du métatarse.

Orlando Pirates Football Club

INJURY UPDATE: Siyabonga Sangweni underwent a successful operation on his Achilles tendon yesterday. He will be out of action for up to 12 weeks in which time he will begin his recovery & rehabilitation program.

Sifiso Myeni started light training following his groin strain.

Thandani Ntshumayelo will only later today receive the full prognosis of his injured foot after undergoing further tests.

Patrick Phungwayo is still out recovering from his Achilles tendon operation.

We wish all the players well in the various stages of their return to full fitness.

L'esperance doit par tout les moyens écrasés le Orlondo puis remporté ce titre de ligue des champions face a Ahly.

le fait de rappeler Aboutrika c est qu'il n'en aucun joueur valable au banc de leur remplacent, quoi que j'estime que nous leur somme supérieur cette année, mais bon la vérité ce trouve sur le terrain ...

Bref quoi qu'il arrive c est la dernière année de Gomaa et de Aboutrika après ce club va tombé dans l'oublie durant 2/3 ans...

INJURY UPDATE: Thandani Ntshumayelo's condition has been deemed as soft tissue damage as opposed to the metatarsal injury following the knock in the Telkom Knockout Last 16.

Having been injured around the same area before, the thought was of a recurrence of the same injury, however multiple scans, x-rays and observation did not pick up anything and he has subsequently been given the all clear to resume training.

je pense que les absences ou les présences en face n'ont plus vraiment d'importance.. on a 90 minutes pour mettre tout ce qu'on a dans les jambes et gagner... une sorte de finale de coupe..

bien tirer les balles arrêtées et ne pas trop rater d'[occasion] devant la cage comme on le fait à chaque fois à rades

après il faut savoir gérer les cartons, si on passe incha'Allah on aura à affronter ahly au complet (aucun avertissement à l'aller + un bon score favorable) et au repos... même situation que l'an dernier sauf qu'ils n'ont plus gueddou, ghali et barakat et nous on plus hichri ben mansour dans l'axe.. w Rabbi maana

Klate: Pressure is on Esperance

Orlando Pirates winger Daine Klate feels Esperance are under more pressure than Bucs ahead of their Champions League semi-final showdown on Saturday.

The teams will collide in Tunis, with Pirates needing a scoring draw to progress following the goalless stalemate in the first leg at Orlando Stadium.

"We will have to take the game to them. Esperance will come all out to play and that suits us," Klate told his club's official website.

"At this stage, I think the pressure is more on Esperance. They have to beat us to go to the finals and they are playing at home, so, I expect an open game on Saturday.

The former SuperSport United ace added: "They (Esperance) celebrated the draw here, so that shows us that they think they can beat us in Tunisia.

"I personally hope they approach the game in that mind-set. We have got speed and skills aplenty in the team so, playing end-to-end stuff will be good for us," concluded Klate.

The Buccaneers go into this return leg carrying... a 0-0 scoreline in the home leg played at Orlando Stadium.

De Sa: We're ready for a hostile reception

Orlando Pirates coach Roger de Sa says he knows what to expect in terms of the tactical approach to be employed by Esperance in the second and decisive semi-final of the CAF Champions League on Saturday.

The Bucs mentor says he has had enough time to analyse and familiarise himself with the style favoured by the Tunisians, and instead is more occupied with psychologically conditioning his players to achieve the desired result in North African conditions.

"In terms of the approach, we are well aware of what to expect from our opponents," De Sa tells KickOff.com. "Look, they were our last opponents. Besides, we have watched enough video footage of their other matches so we are well prepared in this regard."

De Sa says he is gearing his players for what will be a "hostile reception" in Tunisia.

"We might be in for a hostile reception. This is a Champions League semi-final match and we expect the stadium to be packed to the brim.

"You expect the home fans to be whistling and cheering very loudly, rallying for their team. We must be composed and this is crucial if we are to come away with a positive result."

After they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by the Tunisian giants, Orlando Pirates will need a scoring draw to progress to the finals of Africa's most prestigious football competition.

Pirates to invade the fortress

If Orlando Pirates were in any doubt as to the enormity of the task that awaits them this weekend, they need only look at Esperance's incredible home record.

The Buccaneers go into the match at Stade Olympique de Radès needing a win or a scoring draw to progress to the CAF Champions League Final; this after the goalless draw in the first leg at Orlando Stadium.

But their task will be a hard one…

Esperance have won their last 13 matches at home and conceded just five times in the process, meaning Lennox Bacela and Co will have to be at their very best.

Added to that, the Tunisians have lost only three matches at home in this competition in the last 12 years, spanning 60 matches. All those have come against Egyptian sides, including a 2-1 defeat in last year's Final against Al-Ahly.

That said, Esperance have won the Champions League only twice, and have many near misses to ponder over. In fact, they have lost two finals in the last three years, suggesting that if the pressure is applied, they can crumble …

Esperance's home a fortress

THE difficulty of the task facing Orlando Pirates in the second leg of their African Champions League semifinal is laid bare in Esperance's remarkable home record in the tournament.

It would be fair to say that the Tunisian club have turned their Stade Olympique de Rades into a fortress, having suffered just three defeats there in their last 60 home matches in the CAF Champions League dating back to 2001.

The last of those defeats came against Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the final of last year's competition, when they were surprising 2-1 losers.

Aside from that hiccup, they have won each of their last 13 home games and conceded just five goals in the process, keeping a clean sheet in 10 of those matches.

The other defeats both came against Egyptian opposition - they lost 2-1 to Zamalek in 2005 and 3-1 at home to Ismaili in the semifinals of the 2003 tournament.

The only team to keep Esperance score-less on their home patch in over six years and 28 matches in the Champions League is Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca, who escaped with a 0-0 draw in August 2011.

Esperance are gunning for their fourth Champions League final in a row, a run that has been built on their ability to pick teams off at home. They beat Wydad Casablanca in the 2011 decider, a 1-0 home win in the final enough to seal the trophy after a 0-0 score in the first leg away.

They lost to DR Congo's TP Mazembe in 2010, though, and last season were surprise losers to Al Ahly having done the hard work with a 1-1 away draw, only to suffer that rare home defeat.

They will also gain some confidence from last year's semifinal against Mazembe. They drew 0-0 away in Lubumbashi, only to win the return 1-0 in Tunis. Pirates will hope the same scenario does not play out this year.

Pirates set out for Tunisia to battle Esperance

ORLANDO Pirates will keep up an intense week of preparations ahead of the African Champions League semifinal as coach Roger de Sa looks for a win in Tunisia on Saturday.

Full sessions are planned at their home base on Tuesday and Wednesday before the team gets on the aircraft to North Africa.

The squad flies via Dubai on Wednesday afternoon and are scheduled to get into the Tunisian capital on Thursday afternoon.

"We will look to have another session the same night," said De Sa.

Pirates are entitled to an opportunity to training at the match venue 24 hours before Saturday's second leg and will certainly take up that option, added the coach.

The Pirates coach has a specific programme of preparation that the team are following ahead of the Esperance clash as Pirates need an away goal to stand a realistic chance of reaching the final.

The match is set for the Rades Stadium, site of the 2004 African Nations Cup final.

De Sa said he was pleased with Sifiso Myeni's recovery from injury and that of Thandani Ntshumayelo, both of whom were given a medical all clear at the weekend.

"Myeni had a full session today, which is a boost for us," he said on Monday

The exertions of travel have now become the norm for players, who have had two similarly long trips to Egypt plus a more taxing trip in the Republic of the Congo during the Champions League group phase.

For their most important match of the campaign, it is timely that they are likely to have their most relaxing trip as they fly on an established airline with plenty of on-board entertainment to relax the players.

But De Sa has previously joked about his players' ability to tuck a pillow under their arm and head off anywhere required, so used are they to a frequent travel schedule.

Pirates will depart Tunis for South Africa on Sunday, arriving back via Dubai at 4pm on Monday.

That gives them barely enough time to get ready for next Wednesday's Telkom Knockout quarterfinal clash against Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Orlando Stadium.
