De Sa happy with goalless draw

Johannesburg – Orlando Pirates coach Roger de Sa says he is satisfied with the goalless draw in the dramatic first-leg Caf Champions League semi-final against Tunisia's Esperance at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.

"Naturally a win would have been a better result, but my main priority from this match was not to concede a goal," said De Sa.

"This enables us to go to Tunisia for the second leg in two weeks time with a fighting chance of reaching the final in view of the away goal rule applying when two teams finish on level terms.

"Esperance might now have the advantage of playing at home, but they will do so with the knowledge that a 1-1 or 2-2 draw or any other drawn game with goals scored will result in their elimination from the tournament."

De Sa also dismissed the assessment that Esperance were not the invincible force that they had been touted before the game.

"On the contrary, they are a highly professional outfit and proved this with a methodical exhibition throughout the 90 minutes in what was a testing away encounter for them," said De Sa.

"This is no half-baked outfit we are up against and we will have to be at our best, if not reaching new heights when we play Esperance in Tunisia because their standard is not much different from that of many of the professional teams in Europe.

"We will need to pit fire with fire, but I have confidence in my players that they will be able to achieve this."

The importance of the occasion for South African soccer, in particular, ensured an underlying element of intrigue and tension throughout Saturday's game - and De Sa believed the whole country would again be holding thumbs for The Buccaneers in the second leg showdown.

Pirates enjoyed territorial superiority and had more scoring opportunities at Orlando Stadium, but it was the calculated, composed Esperance who achieved their objective and will certainly come away from the no-holds barred encounter for the second-leg with greater satisfaction.

Dutch World Cup legend Ruud Krol, who has coached both these clubs, said before the game that Pirates had the individual skill and Esperance the better technique and temperament.

And so it proved with the ball-weaving Buccaneers often verging on desperation in a bid to break the deadlock, with the yellow-carded Andile Jale and Rooi Mahamutsa coming precariously close to being red-carded for heated arguing with the referee.

"This kind of response could be a disaster in Tunis where the crowd could influence the refereeing decisions," said De Sa.

"It is imperative that we remain cool and play with nerves of steel, no matter what is thrown against us."

Esperance coach unhappy with Bucs draw

Esperance coach Maher Kanzari says the goalless draw against Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium yesterday is a "very bad result" for his side.

The Tunisian team held Bucs to a 0-0 result in the CAF Champions League semi-final, first leg, with the second to be played on October 19.

Kanzari feels his side have made things difficult for themselves after failing to score away, meaning if Pirates can score an away goal in the return leg, Esperance will need an outright win.

"It was a semi-final between two very good teams," he says. "The two teams know each other. The game was equal, the two controlled the game in moments.

"We had three opportunities to score and for Pirates it was the same. It was a good game but no one scored.

"But the goalless draw is a very bad result for us. It will make problems for us, and we have to think about how to deal with them.

"The two teams are still with a 50 percent chance, and the chances are the same."

j'ai vu le match d'al ahly.. ils nous dépassent à tous les niveaux, même si on passe en finale ça sera très dur face à eux

Montana: Bien que je ne suis pas d'accord avec toi sur ce point, je préfère ce statut d'outsider que le statut de favori de la saison passée.

Notre équipe bien qu'elle ne montre pas du bon jeu est une équipe tranquille et qui sait gérer son match et les moments chauds dans un match.

Nous avons aussi une attaque qui peut marquer à tout moment et un milieu accrocheur.

Nous avons toutes nos chances devant Al Ahly et j'y crois moi mais attention la finale n'est pas encore d'actualité. Il faut passer le cap des pirates avant.

El Ahly ne nous est pas supérieur , loin de là ! Il suffit juste d'empêcher les transmissions de balle entre Leur défense et Walid Soliman/Aboutrika et puis cette équipe sera totalement prise a la gorge.

Contre Orlondo Pirates, on pouvait avoir la maîtrise du ballon, avec un milieu de terrain composé de Ragued avec un autre joueur bon techniquement, hélas Mouelhi c'est du zero. Et autant Yannick Ndjeng avait fait preuve de sang-froid sur une frappe du gauche qui a effleuré la lucarne, autant au fur et à mesure du match il s'est éteint comme une allumette . Au final, l'Espérance de Tunis n'a pas de regret à avoir, puisqu'ils ont fait un match nul qu'ils n'ont jamais cherché à gagner. .

On avait largement la possibilité de gagner 2 - 0 , lorsque j'ai regarder le match Orlondo vs >Ahly, les égyptiens n'en pouvait plus a partir de 55 eme minute de jeu alors que les nôtres malgré la condition physique de certain exécrable avions largement les moyens de revenir avec 1 - 0...

je pense que Kanzari a peur de prendre certaine décision, bref le Ahly a toujours eu se niveau sauf qu'ils sont ni fort ni mauvais , ils ont toujours su garder se collectif bien huilé, mais là , il n 'en ni Gueddo ni Hossam Ghally !! il faudrait que nos joueurs booste un peu plus leur hargne et se souvienne tous de leur final perdu en 2012 et croyez moi bien le Ahly quittera la Tunisie sur les rotules ....
