Ahly vs EST (1 - 0): A Dream Shattered in Cairo

From the kick-off, the Blood and Gold were caught cold by an own goal from Aholou, deflecting Rabia's shot from a corner in the 4th minute (1-0). This nightmare start put a damper on the ambitions of the Blood and Gold players.
Despite territorial domination, Espérance was never able to find a way through the well-organized and ruthless Egyptian defense. In the 13th minute, a blatant handball in Al Ahly's penalty area was not whistled by the referee, depriving Espérance of a penalty that could have changed the game.
Lack of attacking sharpness
Espérance, timid and disjointed, lacked attacking sharpness throughout the match. Clear-cut chances were rare and attempts lacked precision. In the 37th minute, Shahat almost doubled the score for Al Ahly, but his shot was repelled by an impeccable Meriah.
Legitimate regrets
In the second half, Espérance showed a more attacking face, but Al Ahly managed their advantage well and controlled the tempo of the game. In the 54th minute, Espérance finally had their first shot on target, but it was no danger to goalkeeper Shoubir. The most dangerous action came from Sasse in the 62nd minute, whose shot hit the post.
In the last quarter of an hour, Espérance pushed forward and created a few hot chances, but without much danger for the Egyptian goalkeeper.
In the 90th minute, Espérance thought they had another penalty after a foul on Bukia in the box, but the referee again whistled in favor of the Egyptians.
An exceptional run
In the end, it was Al Ahly who claimed the title thanks to their 1-0 victory. A huge disappointment for Espérance, who had dreamed of a 5th Champions League title.
Despite this cruel defeat, Espérance fans can be proud of their team, which had an exceptional run in this competition. Espérance showed that they are capable of competing with the best African teams and demonstrated an exemplary state of mind throughout the season.
The appointment is made for next year to try to bring this coveted trophy back to Rades. Long live Espérance!
