Illegal registration of Clottey: Who is to cough the money?

Who is to cough the money for the illegal registration: Asante Kotoko or Emmanuel Clottey? (CHALA Photo)

Kotoko chief Edmund Ackah, speaking to GHANAsoccernet.com, denied reports that Asante Kotoko have been charged by Fifa to pay €153,000 to Espérance for the illegal registration of Emmanuel Clottey. "FIFA never stated anywhere that we should pay that money to Esperance," he explained. "What FIFA said was that Kotoko should ensure Emmanuel Clottey pays the charge of $180,000 for breach of contract," concludes the management member of the Porcupine Warriors.

What is certain, though, is that Fifa have issued their verdict. Whoever coughs the money for the illegal registration of Emmanuel Clottey remains secondary to Espérance! It is an issue the team and the player have to settle if they want to avoid further Fifa measures!

Ex-Kotoko midfielder Yusif Chibsah blasts club over illegal Clottey transfer

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Yusif Chibsah has blasted the club over the illegal transfer of Emmanuel Clottey which has plunged the club in a huge debt, insisting the management should have known better.

The Sweden-based Ghanaian insists the club must not suffer because of the ignorance of the current management on the transfer repercussions of the player.

He adds that the management should have done a proper check on the player before signing him.

"We don't know what ensued between Kotoko and Clottey before the contract was signed but Kotoko should have known better.

“What Clottey told the club before signing the contract should not have been the only reason for Kotoko to sign the player. Kotoko should have made sure everything was true," Chibsah told Angel FM in Kumasi.

"They (Kotoko) should have had some assurance from him and should have dealt with Esperance," he added.

With that, he quizzed his club whether there was a release letter to confirm Clottey's exit from Esperance.

Asante Kotoko have been ordered by World Football governing body FIFA to pay an amount of €153,000 to Tunisian giants Esperance for illegally registering Emmanuel Clottey.
