Espérance fans were curious to see how their team would fare in the last group game of the CAF Confederation Cup in Sousse after the departure of José Anigo and the coming of Ammar Souayah.

The Blood and Gold played a good first half and took the lead thanks to a Haythem Jouini header (25'). Étoile trailed behind until the 89th minute which saw Algerian referee Mehdi Abid Charef award the hosts a penalty kick that allowed Étoile's Algerian striker Bounedjah to score the equalizer before making it 2-1 in stoppage time (90+3').

Espérance thus quit CAF second-tier competition and fall back on Tunisia's football league which kicked off today. Espérance will play AS Marsa away on Wednesday.

Starting lineup: Ben Chérifia, Derbali, Nefzi, Yaâkoubi, Machani, Ragued (c), Abboud (Reguiî 70'), Chaâlali, Mhirsi (Naghmouchi 70'), Ben Youssef (Samti 87') and Jouini.

Yellow cards: Jouini, Ben Youssef, Nefzi.
