Tunisia temporarily assumed top spot of Group A after a resounding 3-0 win over Djibouti in their Day Five clash on Friday in Djibouti.
Naim Sliti, Hamdi Harbaoui and Taha Yassine Khenissi were the scorers as the Carthage Eagles dethroned Liberia at the summit of the standings.
Liberia, on nine points host Togo in the group's other fixture on Sunday, 5 June 2016 in Monrovia. ‘Les Eperviers' of Togo are two points shy of the Lone Stars, whilst Djibouti remains at the bottom pointless after five matches.
The Carthage Eagles, present at every edition of the flagship continental championship since 1994, needed the maximum points against the whipping side of the group to keep alive their hopes of snatching Group A's automatic ticket to Gabon, and they did that in grand style.
Sliti, who plays for French second-tier side Red Star, broke the deadlock on 15 minutes before Harbaoui doubled the lead just before the break.
Khenissi put the icing on the cake with the third goal on the hour mark to wrap up victory as Djibouti conceded their 19th goal in five matches, against finding the back of the net once.
